Certified Aging In Place Specialist (CAPS)

The CAPS (Certified Aging In Place Specialist) designation is awarded to occupational therapists, general contractors, architects, and designers who have undergone training in creating spaces that enhance client independence, safety, and function for individuals with health- and age-related challenges. 

This CAPS designation is overseen by the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB). According to NAHB, "CAPS design takes your current and future circumstances into consideration. CAPS design principles focus on elegant, aesthetically enriching, barrier-free environments." 

Aging-in-place design principles address the needs of older adults or individuals of any age with disabilities who aim to remain at home.
